Fractionated Suicide

large

Fractionated suicide is a term commonly used to describe the act of long term abuse of hard drugs, alcohol and tobacco such that it slowly depletes the body and allows the development of secondary pathologies that cause death. Unlike suicide attempts, which might be caused by an overdose and bring sudden death, fractionated suicide is a slow death.

I use the term in a more generalized context and apply it to any behaviour or lifestyle that is known to cause the development of pathologies in the body. My reasoning behind this is that such behaviours come from the suffering of traumas that the ego structure is not able to handle. It is a self annihilation scheme, intended to destroy the ego but our lower mind misunderstands it as a need to destroy the physical body in a way that is not apparent or conscious. Another term used for this is unconscious suicide.

Self destructive fractionated suicide behaviours can be very tricky. I count as fractionated suicide compulsive behaviours that deteriorate the physical body and that do not promote successful aging. Things such as workaholism, anorexia, binge eating, over-eating foods that are know cause for pathologies such as sugar is for Diabetes or using noxious substances such as smoking cigarettes is for Lung Cancer. It can also be behaviours such as despondency on Health matters.

One can see why the commonly used treatments for addictions do not address the root cause which lies further than in our brains or our physical body. In this regard, a great part of the work of Shamanic Traditions is aimed at allowing the death of the ego and the rebirth of a person’s true spiritual identity. Such identity can take care of the traumas in a healthy and balanced way and usually results in the end of the noxious behaviours and lifestyle. The aim is at liberating the person from the constant struggles of the ego. This is accomplished by the removal of emotional patterns stored in the energy bodies and allowing a greater influx of spiritual energy. Many times physical and emotional trauma have the grave consequence of detaching parts of the Soul. This is important because sometimes those parts of a person that can deal with the trauma are detached and inaccessible rendering the person incapable of dealing with the issue at hand. This is when the self-destructive behaviours start to show up. Shamanic Journeying is way to recuperate these parts and re-integrating them.

There are other ways to heal the energy body that use breathing such as Holotropic Breathwork or Dr. Wright’s Method. In this case a circular breathing pattern is used to alter the consciousness level and bypass the maladaptive ego structures. Breathing is healing because as you breath you increase the level of Prana or Qi flowing through the energy bodies. This acts as a power drill to break the energetic shell that protects the maladaptive behavioural and emotional patterns. Breath can be used in a more gentle way by using alternate nostril breathing. This allows to dose the amount of breath you use while at the same time removing the debris left behind. This is one of my preferred methods to calm and heal emotional trauma because it is all about healing one breath at a time.
